My white breasted pair successfully raised one lonely chick. It fledged on June 11th. I left the nest box in thinking that if I didn't they might start their moult. They've laid a couple of eggs. So soon?!
Anyway, I've heard good and bad about leaving the young bird in with them. On one hand, the chick might learn good parenting skills from it's parents, but on the other hand, once the new chicks hatch, they might chase the older chick away, and if it sleeps in the nest box, the eggs would get soiled decreasing the chance of hatching. If I wait to see how it goes, and need to remove the chick, the disruption wouldn't be good either.
It's eating on it's own and rarely begs anymore. I know it's only been 10 days, but this chick seems to be ahead of everything. Oh what to do!
