when should the nest be removed?

Post by rafadiaz » Wed Jun 25, 2008 2:01 pm

My pair of zebra finches had 3 babies, do I remove the nest when the babies fly out (~3 weeks old) or do I just clean it at that time and remove it completly in 1-2 months?

Once all the babies leave the nest, you should be able to take the nest out, they will sleep on a perch or on the bottom of the cage. If you leave the nest in long enough the parents may lay a 2nd clutch of eggs.

when it comes to zebras there is no MAY involved in laying a second clutch, it is a certainty

beg all you want  but please tell us your reasons for differing.
I had zebras for years & any time I left a nest in the aviary they always raised more than one clutch of young

With Zebras the question is not how to get them to breed it's how to stop them breeding. I've found this much harder to manage. What’s even harder is to try and stop them breeding in a mixed aviary!

I had to seperate my zebras into diffrent cages because i dont want them breeding since i will be moving down to florida soon. I know if i left them together they would keep on breeding and i dont want to be moving nest and babies around and stressing the parents.
