All the breeding cycle

Could someone describe to me the breeding 'cycle' because i have two nests with both of my pairs and i keep seeing my pairs in the nests and hoping i have a egg but nothing one pair sleeps in the nest and i have had one of the nests for about two and a half weeks and the other for about a week.

give it time once they start you'll be begging for them to stop breeding

i have had such a problem with the budgies, except from one pair who seem to want to have chicks all the time, that i feel they should have some now!!!
(do ya get what i mean)
