First Baby

My female zebra has left the nest so I assume incubation is over. She goes back to check every so often. There is at least one chick but as the nest is a pocket type it is difficult to see.
I assume the chick is being fed but there is hardly any sign of movement when I have looked in.Is this normal behaviour? There is also a chick in the other nest but also still some eggs as this nest is not as far on as the other.
I will have to let nature take it's course but wondered how long before I see a fledgling as I want to remove the nests as soon as possible to prevent any further breeding.

Mine have fledged anywhere from 18 days to the mid 20's. I usually give them a few days to get used to flying and get steady before I take the nest away. Usually my hen has already relaid so I end up scooping and tossing the eggs before they fledge. That's what I had to do with my most recent batch.

Soon you will hear them beg for food when either the cock or the hen goes into the nest.

I have poor hearing but will turn my hearing aid up tomorrow and have a good listen

. At least they are producing whereas my poor cockatiel won't stop laying blanks even though she is an only bird.

They are still in the nest but there is a lot more movement. I have seen a bottom appear and at least two faces. Shouldn't be too long now. Will keep you posted.

They are flapping and one peeped out today. I am afraid they are going to appear tomorrow when I am away for 14 hours. My neighbour is in charge but I may have to check with a torch when I get home to see if anyone needs putting to bed.

If they are flapping, they are working their wing muscles, and practicing how to fly before taking the big jump.
Good luck

Went out to feed this morning and the first baby is out. looks just like mummy apart from the beak. Can't believe how developed it is. There are two more, maybe three to come. Mum and dad are very attentive. Still working on picture.
