Society Clutch 11/10/15

Post by Sheather » Tue Nov 10, 2015 12:23 pm

Two society finch chicks hatched this morning to my trio of Apollo (chestnut pied), Cirrus (fawn pied crested), and Claire (red-eyed white crested) but the sister wives weren't about to let me in to take birthday pictures.
I don't know for sure which the momma is, or it could be both, but either could pass the fancy hairdo gene. Claire won't give any albino young though, at least this generation. It's recessive and Apollo doesn't carry it. One additional egg remains which could hatch.

Flashback to last February and July, respectively, Apollo and Cirrus were just chicks themselves. It's pretty neat to see a pair of birds you've raised go on to be parents themselves.

How do you get them comfortable being touched???? Everything I have read says it will scare them to death. I would love this!!! did you see my message about shipping spice hybrids? you really are a bird whisperer to get these tiny birds to sit in your hand!!!

Looks like just two this time - egg #3 looks to have been cracked early in incubation.

Lumpy lumps they are now, but they'll be birds before I can blink...

Two babies? With three parents? These will be some very fat and sassy little finches... :D

Lovely looking tiny pinkies, and yes, I bet they will be 'very' well fed babies :-).
