Two Blues and Two Greens!

Looks like two of the four babies will be blue back and the other two green backs. The little guy on the left is a little scruffy looking and smaller than the others. Hope he catches up with his siblings!

Time will tell. I have another BB from another clutch and he/she is looking good, but I find the BB are not as robust as their siblings. Mom of these four is an OH/PB/GB and dad is RH/PB split to blue. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Omg so cute!!!
Congrats, looking stunning, as expected! My gouldian pair 5 years ago had 3 dud clutches. I had to rehome them due to external circumstances but I always swore to come back to them one day! And here we are!

I love blue backs! Congrats Jenny. So you only need one parent to be split to blue to give you blue offspring. I thought both had to be split to blue. If you pair blue to normal, will only some of the offspring be split to blue or all of them?

Both parents have to have a Blue gene to give the chick so both are split to Blue. Split to Blue and Normal will give you all split to Blue chick's.

Well then my OH hen must be split to blue!!! Ha! Didn't know that! I knew dad was split to blue because the breeder told me so when I purchased him at the bird fair. But the hen was purchased from a different person who didn't know any background on the her.
@Debbie I have a question. I have a pair of YH/PB goulds. The breeder told me that the male is split to blue. If I breed the male to another gould....say the OH/PB hen that is split to blue, what would I get?
Thank you!!!

Glad
Debbie chimed in. I had no idea about both parents needing to be split to blue. I am pretty excited about my new little family. This is definitely a learning experience. Glad I'm on this forum so maybe one day I will understand this genetics thing! Happy you are back into this crazy, bird addiction
tt101 I know you won't regret it. Soooo much fun!!!!!!

YH.PB.?/Blue and YH.PB.Green/Blue
I need to know the males body color
If they are both Green/Blue then you would get Green, Green/Blue and Blue chicks. There would be no way of knowing for sure which Green were just Green and which were split to Blue.

A YH.PB.Pastel/Blue male and YH.PB.Green/Blue would get you
males:
YH.PB.SF Pastel Blue -visually blue body and all black areas will be grey.
YH.PB.SF Pastel -visually lighter green body and all black areas will be grey.
YH.PB.Pastel/Blue -visually same as SF Pastel
hens:
YH.PB.Pastel Blue -visually white body
YH.PB.Pastel -visually yellow body
YH.PB.Pastel/Blue

Congratulations! Your babies are lovely. Look after scruffy, he may need a few extra snacks to bring him up to par

Looks like "scruffy" was a later hatch which happens at times. I'm sure he will be fine and catch up quickly.

Yeah because blue is a recessive trait and green is dominant! Same with purple breast vs white breast (purple is dominant here). I am happy to be back! It is such a rush to open the nest and find eggs or babies and so satisfying to see the parents raise happy healthy babies. I personally love gouldians because there is always that chance of a surprise! Since being split won't show the other color! But my breeder normally knows her colors well and their family lines!
I may end up with forbes parrot finches this time instead. Love those birds!
