Gouldians Chasing Kids Away

My "perfect pair" of gouldian finches, who raise their babies with patience have weaned their kids and after two days of the momma (Bri) chasing them away from the nest. I tried to wait it out, but the second lights were out (birds were blinded), I removed all 3 juvies and put them in a separate cage (they are sleeping peacefully beside Brat's blues now) for their protection.

Bri attacked and chased them pretty hard as 3 of her eggs are pipping. Just making sure I did the "right" thing.

All 3 kids are weaned and neither parent called out to them. Looks like they dont want to share upbringing with their prior clutch. Ahh well, hoping for 3 hatchlings in the morning. Bittersweet. Audy (dad) was so patient with the kids.

Good news, they should make excellent parents in the future. They did it the all-natural-way from start to finish.

Absolutely the right thing. Three new babies in the morning very exciting. It's a good feeling when you know mom and dad got this. :)

You did what needed to be done. The pair must be very protective of their nest and that can't be bad. ;)

Keep us posted on any hatchlings

Bri's juvies are getting along very well with Brat's 2 Blues. Thanks ladies. Bri & Audy aren't calling to them at all across the room. And the juvies aren't calling to their parents either.

So indeed it was time. :)

Yes, the time comes when the kids have to fly the coop.
My three juvies from BB and Pim, got moved today as well.
The breeding cage, was just too small to keep them all in there any longer (plus six eggs, one which is either hatching, or no good, but seems to have a wee crack in it).

Are our pairs hatching about the same time? That would be awesome :)

High Five! \M/ Im in the same boat with cage space. We have two flight cages in the house for juvies.

One flight cage is deemed friendly juvies the other deemed....flighty juvies. #-o
