Breeding ???

Post by mychocolabs » Thu Aug 28, 2008 3:11 pm

Since I know very little about breeding finches but my finches are laying eggs, will a male finch breed with more than one female and if so how many? Right now I have 7 finches together--3 female zebra's, 2 male zebra's and 2 society females, I am going to be seperating them and wanted to know what would be a good split, or do I need to get more males?

You should get another male zebra and if you have a cage big enough for them to have there own privacy they can all be kept together. If the cages are small then you should have a male/female zebra pair per cage. Societies are very passive and can be housed with other passive birds. They would be fine with the zebras if you had a big cage that would be suitable for all of them. And yes a male zebra will sometimes try to breed with a female usually one that is added to a cage with exsisting males.
Society Finches, Fire Finches, Strawberry Finches, Owl Finches, Plum Head Finch, Goldbreast Waxbill Finches, Orange Cheek Waxbill Finches, Blue Capped Cordon Finches, Zebra Finches, Bronzewing Mannikin Finches, Red-Cheek Cordon Blue Finches, and Button Quail
