I noticed that your question went unanswered in Aug. There are not a lot of people on the Forum with Diamonds, so that's probably why no one responded. I wish Wildbill was still around, he would definitely know.

Did you ever figure out what was wrong?
Have they bred for you?

I just got my first (Orange beak mutation) a short while ago. They are beautiful birds, aren't they? Now to find a mate for him (I think it's a him anyway, lol).

sharath1 - Since I know nothing about diamond firetails, I just looked them up on finchinfo.com. They are saying that "pair bonds are strong and mated pairs often remain together for life." They "will form a life-long, monogamous bond. Male-female pairs will not breed unless they are compatible." There is a lot of detailed information on this website that you might want to read up on.
I suggest you talk to your friend and get your original male back.
Good luck.
Iso

Hi lovezebs and isobea thanks, yes diamond fire tails dont breed until they r bonded and also very difficult to break the bond and change the pair they just dont breed with the new bird. when i bought my old male again they started breeding again but unfortunately the male started to through the chicks out of the nest, i watched them for 3 months and removed the nest box. i will try again next year to breed them again thank you

Ah, so you did get your old male back.
Too bad that this clutch didn't work out, but hopefully next time will be better.
Could be that they were just stressed out by the seperation.

Do you have any pictures of your birds, and any suggestions about sexing males and females.

Here's my little one and only...
