Keep or transfer first clutch?

Post by dayhiker » Mon Aug 15, 2016 3:57 pm

Hello! I ba a pit of black head lady gouldians that had their first clutch fledge around July 5-6, 2016. There are three fledglings and all share the same cage with the parents. I however heard multiple chirps getting louder and more frequent over the past week. Being that this is a 30 x12 cage, this will get really crowded soon! Mom and dad seem to be in and out of the nest frequently; I have not peeked to see the color or number of babies with this second clutch.
Question: do I move the first clutch now to a separate cage- I have one cafe housing a blue back female gouldian (from another pair- born October 2015) whose sister passed away 2 days ago-( she got trapped in the corner of the cage :(
Or- do I wait for the babies to fledge? Can I disturb the cage at this time?

Thanks for your help.

If the parents are taking care of them, you dont move the juvies until they (the parents) chase them off to make a new clutch. Juvenile gouldians are very vocal and boisterous. Let the parents follow through and wean them. In a week or two, separate the teens if you need to.

Sorry, I misread your post. If the teenagers are weaned then by all means move them if a second clutch is about to fledge. I would halt all breeding until you get more cage space. Congrats on the babies.
