Hi all!
Her eggs are due to hatch this weekend around the 10th. I happened to notice both were out of the cage for some reason, so a quickly took a pic of the eggs for the first time. Ms. Mac lost her first husband so this is her new love. She is a BH/wb/g split b. Her new hubby is an oh/pb/yb .
Egg experts the one egg looks darker means not fertile?

The two top eggs look fertile (as I can see the air pockets formed). The dark one looks like late embryonic death. The others, I really cant tell.
Anyway to shine a little LED flashlight against them and get a shot? Did they get back on the nest last night? Sorry I missed this yesterday.

Yes, she went back in after I took the picture. I hovered around / changed feed etc. in hopes she would fly out but dad kept flying at me. (Reminded me of Jet) so I didn't take an egg out to check. I'll try again today.
No need to apologize!!!!!!!!! You and the gang are always there for me! I have 6 nests with eggs so far.

Alright I don't know what's going on now. The first clutch didn't work out so I let them start over. I checked the nest and ...this pair has taken out most of the material that they put in AND it looks like they've been eating it there???? All the husks. Ummm. Anyone seen anything like this?? I'm thinking about giving up on his pair since I have a few that are doIng well. Strange.

Babs I mean, look at the first nest he made. This time he kept taking material out til there's almost none.

What the heck? Put some coco fibre in and mash it down. See if that helps. Shame, half those eggs look incubated. His poor woman. Shes probably fussing up a storm.

He seems obsessed with nest building with the Timothy hay. Id change up the materials. I might work. Give them another shot.

Madcat, my now-deceased male (RIP Pretty Boy) did the same thing with the nest. First, the nest material went and then....I have no clue what he did with the eggs. Ate them? There was no evidence that they ever existed. I hope this nest works out but if it doesn't, I hope your other nests produce lots of pretty gouldies!
And...now, I'm going to sing the song in my head for the next several hours. Miss Mary Mac, Mac, Mac.... LOL!

Babs ok. I'll put some of that material down tomorrow. Thanks. I always saw him with grass but I thought he was ADDING to the nest. Humph...

Shannylee sorry about Pretty boy...it stings I know.
The missing egg thing... maybe they did eat them because saw a shell in the bottom earlier today too! Well, I'll add other material and put eggs back. If this doesn't work I won't try this pair again. Thanks so much.

Babs I looked around in my supply box and found some other material. I cleaned the nest, stuffed it, put the eggs back and quickly returned the nest before they got too upset. She has been sitting tight ever since!! Thanks for the advice. She would NOT move. She is comfy cozy.
