Gouldian stopped laying eggs

Hello All,
I have made a big mistake .I was shifting my gouldian pair to a bigger enclosure and found there was egg deep in the nest.I hadn't noticed it and Accidentally it broke. After the bird had moved to the cage she has stopped laying egg .It has been 2-3 days .my bad it seems the bird doesn't seem to be secure. Is it usual ? Will she lay eggs again .I am very sorry for the bird.

I'm sure she will lay again, she is just getting adjusted to the move and the new cage. Once she has settled down, she should be back in breeding mode.

You were right Sally ! This morning I could see the hen has layed an egg. Do I need to buy society finches for fostering.I heard Gouldians are not good parents .I have a pair of long tail finches who roost at night.

To my surprise . I see the male gouldian bird has broken the egg and eaten it . Is it normal ?

Not normal but can happen.
Be sure they have a few calcium sources available at all times. Hopefully this is not a habit he has formed.

I have already placed a cuttlebone which the hen is munching throughout the day .I never knew that male Gouldians can eat eggs.

Shall I remove the male bird . Can she raise the chicks alone?

He may be looking for calcium from the shell or protein and vitamins from the egg itself. Vitamin D in the egg helps the body absorb/process calcium. Have you tried offering hard boiled eggs to their diet?

I would not recommend that she incubate or raise the chicks alone, in nature they share duties.
