3 Owl Finch Nestlings to fledge soon
We have 3 Owl Finch nestlings that should fledge by the weekend. They are being raised by a pair of Societies. The Owl Finch parents were a little too young to assume feeding responsibilities after their last clutch of one chick, so we gave their eggs to the Societies and took away their nesting basket to give them a breeding break until they are a little older. The nestling in the pic will probably be the first one out of the box. They are 22 days old today.

Congrats on the new babies! I have a pair of Owls that are laying fertile eggs but they abandoned the nest before the eggs hatch....not sure what is going on with them. They have gone a lot farther this time but still "no cigar"! Maybe next time.....

Cutie-pie! I love the way Owl finches come out of the nest looking like the adults.

a_gouldian, your little owl fledges are so stinkin' cute!!!
I moved 4 gouldian eggs to societies when the dad suddenly died and the mom ditched the nest. Only one was viable but the societies tossed that chick every single day until it finally died.
I was out of town or I would have attempted hand feeding. Hubs is not up to that task!

We were lucky as the Societies were laying eggs at the same time as the Owls and we replaced their eggs with the Owl eggs. Not sure what would have happened if they weren't laying eggs. We have only had the Societies for a few months.Shannylee wrote: a_gouldian, your little owl fledges are so stinkin' cute!!!

I moved 4 gouldian eggs to societies when the dad suddenly died and the mom ditched the nest.
