First Painted Firetail

I just did a nest check today... and what did I spot in there but our first painted firetail chick. I am going to hazard a guess that there will be another couple over the next few days (we had 4 eggs in there).
And we might also have a Gold Breasted Waxbill chick as well... because of the white feathers, I couldn't really tell.

Congratulations Mark
Babies are always welcome and sounds like your kids are on their way.
When you get a chance and if parents don't mind, some pictures would be appreciated.

I'll try and do some screen grabs from the video today... or I may just convert and upload a nest check for today.
Our new Senegal Firefinch female was hopping around on the ground and it was really easy for me to catch her. Her rump was bulging a little like she had a little surprise on the way. I picked her up and held her close to what I think is the nest for those guys, she was in there quicker than lightning.

Is your little Fire girl ok? We're not egg bound are we?

I am hoping that she isn't egg bound. Our orange breasted female went through a bit of the same issues, and then the next day she was fine and there was a second egg in their nest
Anyway, here is the video of the latest nest check in the exotics aviary.

Just checked on her again... and she is bouncing around happily again. Maybe she just needed to be held

I just used my dash cam. And I let youtube take all the jitters out of it... and then it went all hoppy

LOL, we got a birds eye version, seeing as they are forever hopping around (or have you started hopping around with your birdies Mark?)

)
Glad to hear that your little girl is doing well

And on todays nest check show... a brand new orange breasted waxbill baby.
And still no sign of any Zebra chicks yet
And if you are following my thread in the quails section... we are now up to 9 Japanese quail eggs floating about!

Congrats on the new baby! I did see a baby in one of the nests! Are they in a separate aviary from the zebras?

They are... my dad attempted to build a second aviary to house his daughters pink and grey galah for a while. When we had to get rid of it (we gave it back to the original owner), the aviary was sitting there doing nothing, so I do some rebuild work and turned it into the home for the zebs and we have just recently got some Japanese quail and put them in there.
I built a new entry to our original aviary and I have put our firetails, orange breasted waxbills and our African (senegal) firefinches in there. I am thinking of putting a pair of king quails in there
