Very exciting that our new Red-headed Gouldian pair have 4 chicks that are 13 days old today and doing well. This new pair are excellent parents so far and the chicks are doing well. They should fledge Thanksgiving weekend. :D

Would anyone know why they are on the cattle bone so much, especially the female? The male also like to eat the grit we put in. We put calcium in the water a few times a week. We have given them egg food but they don't eat it, and also sprouted seed which they eat a little. Maybe it's just a roughage requirement. Regardless, everyone looks healthy, and the chicks always have full crops and are getting really LOUD :)

Yep! Sounds like they are going for round 2. Naughty birds! Let us know when you see the first egg.

If you're not ready for them to raise another clutch while they are weaning their kids, you can toss the eggs. If they are zealous breeders and you think they may immediately breed again, replacing the eggs with duds may be an option. But that would leave dad to do most of the weaning while mom sits.

Elana & Madcat might be able to give good advice on how to approach that if you're nervous.
My pairs haven't double clutched yet thank goodness.

Hey there! I have one pair that snuck a clutch in right under my nose as Babs said. Hahah. It was George and his mate. I've been keeping an eye on them. The juveniles look like they are almost eating on their own. George and his mate take turns sitting and feeding the new babies. They are busy but they seem to have a system down.

Sounds like a good breeding pair!

GouldianGuy thanks. It took him awhile to get the perfect mate but he's on a roll now!
