That's so sweet that they sing in the nest. Canaries do too. The female canary sings a very soft song when she sits tight. Not sure if she's talking to her mate to "BRING ME FOOD" but it's a pretty little whisper song. LOL!

Lavenders are on my wish list. Such beautiful birds! I love the contrast of the soft grey with the deep red. Gorgeous!

This is a species that is difficult to breed, so the fact that they have built a nest so soon is really a good sign. They may need live food if they do have any babies. Good luck!

Lavenders are nest-sleepers and the mere fact that they built a nest is no indication of breeding - they will build (or occupy!) one just for sleeping.
Btw, the nest doesn't seem "right" to me - a typical Lavender nest, similar to that of many weavers, has a downward pointing, narrow tubular entrance tunnel and you can't see the birds inside. You might need to provide more or different nest material to enable them to build that.
I did successfully breed Lavenders but never heard them sing, inside or outside their nest. Just whistles.

They have continued to add to the nest and it now has the downward tube. So fun to watch, whatever they do!

Yes, Lavenders definitely have a most endearing personality and interesting behaviour! The way they fly up into the tube is kind of unique.

CoMtnGal - Connie, what's new with your lavenders? Did they ever lay eggs or are they just using the nest to sleep in? My lavenders are very lazy. They moved into an old nest the shaft tails had built (it was still clean since the eggs were duds). He keeps adding nesting material to it but it doesn't have the downward facing entry tunnel yet. BUT he does sit in it and whistle and call to her. Mostly she just flies up to the nest and takes off again, but sometimes joins him inside for awhile. Not sure what will happen next.
