We have 3 Blue-capped Cordon Bleu chicks (our first) that are about 15 days old. I have seen pics on the web that show fledglings having some blue feathering along with brown. Right now ours just have the brown feathers. At what age should we start to see some of the blue feathers?

Congrats on the new babies!!! I don't have Blue Caps but have Red Cheek CB's. Can't wait for photos! My babies had blue on them from the beginning, with the red cheek appearing later on the boys.
Not sure about Blue Caps. Just wanted to say congrats on the babies because I know how difficult it is to breed this species. I'm sure someone with experience of this species will comment. What type of do you keep them in? Live feed?
Post photos when you get a chance. Enjoy them!!!

They are being fostered by our pair of Societies. We give them egg food and sprouted seed to make up for the insects. The parents have been tossing their chicks (we think the male) so we gave this batch of eggs to the Societies.
The Cordon Bleus are sitting on another batch of eggs now which we will leave with them. We give the Cordon Bleus mini-meal worms. The Cordon Bleus are in a large double flight cage with quite a bit of greenery in it and seem very comfortable in it. They share this cage with a pair of Red-billed Fire Fiches and a female Greenback Twinspot.

a_gouldian - Congratulations! Great news even if you had to give them to the societies. Maybe the blue caps will get it right the second time around.
I am really curious about any information you can give us. I was lucky to find a beautiful male blue cap in the fall. Still looking for a female so I can start breeding them, too. Love those birds.

Two of the chicks peeped out of the nest box this morning and they have been stretching their wings. I think they will probably fledge by Saturday. I will post some pics when they fledge.

I found out today they do have the blue and look like little hens right now. One was standing on the nest box opening grabbing at some nest fiber and fell to the cage floor. It didn't look like it was going to fly up so I decided to band it when I put it in the nest the other two flew out, flowed again by the third. I banded the other two and then put all three in the nest box and they stayed put. They can fly a little but would rather find a place to hide. They should probably stay in the nest box another 3 - 5 days.
