Ive noticed over the past few days that my baby Societies dont appear to have tail feathers. I just noticed, looking back on a pic when they fledged that they all had tail feathers. Now they are gone? or is this part of a molt?

In this pic, you can see two babies ( on the top) clearly have tail feathers.

I took this pic below, tonight, I call this the Finch Kabob.. LOL
But you can clearly see, no tail feathers on the babies. ( the two with tails are mom and dad)

I never realized when they fledged that they actually had tail feathers, until I looked back at the pics.

Is this part of the baby bird growth process? They dont have any trouble flying without tails thats for sure!

They have been in a flight cage with just mom and dad, until today I put them with the rest of the Societies that I have. They seem to be doing just fine and im sure they will grow in quick, I just thought it was odd that they lost them in the first place.

Thanks!

Society Finches in particular drop their tail feathers very easily.

I've had situations, when I've had to grab one of my Socies, and ended up with a Socie tail in my hand, while the bird flew away minus the tail.

The feathers do grow back in fairly quickly.

By the way, beautiful babies.
