Last Gouldian clutch of the breeding season has fledged

Post by Chrismurdoch3 » Sat Feb 25, 2017 6:23 pm

SO this year i tried the colony breeding with my gouldians and i was a bit nervous to do it because i have always done single pairs per cage. but to my surprise the gouldians did very well and believe it or not they all paired up to whom i wanted them to, so i was very lucky and excited for that. All of the pairs had one or two clutches for me this winter and they did great raising their chicks, I had very minimal losses this year. I think i would call it a success and i will be trying the same thing next year.
My last clutch of 4 baby gouldians has fledged today, I love how calm the babies are they just let me pick them up and band their little legs. These should all be red head white breast split to blue back babies. I think the females are ready to take a break this year, and they most definitely deserve it they have been busy and have had a lot of success this year. A couple of them look like they are starting their annual molt already.
Here are a few pics of the chicks.

I'm so glad it worked out well! =D> I remember the cool aviary (and very original) aviary you created! Would love some pictures of the whole aviary again with all the adults and kids in it.

Get us some shots from a little ways back to show the whole setup again!

Babs, thanks for the support, ill see if i can get some more pics for you to post of my window aviary's, I have converted 2 window wells into aviaries and the birdies seem to really enjoy them through out the year.

It's a reptile food tray that i got at the pet store, it works great for their egg food and other treats and looks pretty natural with the gravel.

What a great idea for an aviary !! =D> I see no reason why birds would not love that :D .

Are you able to keep them in that year round ? They look protected from wind, rain and snow ?

Your baby girl is coloring up just beautifully. :D

I just watched your video of the gouldians and it was so cute !! I enjoyed it very much , Thank-you for posting it. :D

Yes i keep them in there year round I have half of the top covered to protect them from the sun and rain.
During the winter i cover the top with plastic and put a little heater in there and it keeps them nice and warm. I actually breed them in the winter because the temp stay so warm from the heater.
