One of my javas laid an egg!

Post by Nerine » Thu Mar 09, 2017 12:45 pm

I just cleaned all the cages this morning, and had to go out a bit...when I came back, I went to check on the birds and found a broken egg in the bottom of the javas' cage!

The pair was sold to me back in December. The pied one, the breeder was positive was male, and the normal grey one was most likely female, but he wasn't 100% sure. I was second-guessing the breeder a couple of months ago, when the normal grey started to sing and 'bounce'. So it looked like I had one male for sure, but I was not certain of the pied. I'm now about 99.9% sure it was the pied who laid the egg.

I have never observed them mating at all.

What do you think?

My original thread from when I first got the javas (with photos) is here:

Well what do you know  . I bet that was a surprise, lol.
If one is singing, and one is laying eggs, then the odds are, that you do have a true couple

Are you hoping to breed them?
If you are, then I would offer them a nest, and stand back =D> . Once they start, there is apparantly no stopping them, or so I'm told.

If you do get babies, will you keep them, or sell them to your Pet Store?

I am planning on breeding them at some point in the future. At the pet store, I believe they breed some of their own birds so we'll see :)

If they aren't interested, I have enough other connections/avenues where I could sell them. And yes, I'll probably keep 1 or 2 depending on the colors <3

Well, if you could figure out a method of delivery, you could find several customers just here on the Forum, lol.

But it probably include some back alley, not all together legal transactions.... just ask Babs....

Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting.

Oh yes, oh yes, count me in. I can do back alleys and will even do oversized trench coats in the middle of summer in So Cal if necessary. Sun glasses after dark? No problem.

Here Sojourner, yes you can have one too. Dont be shy ...hurry put it on before anyone notices. Yes, I KNOW you're a guy. That just means you can fit a HUNDRED birds!....SHHHH!! Just put it ON!!**looks around ** B-)

NOT a guy! But I can probably still fit 100 birds. I once had an hourglass figure, but the sands have shifted with time.
