My first egg! Well, not mine LOL but Lolly laid an egg!!! Discovered it this morning! So far just one in there, and they aren't nesting on it but I did read that they sometimes wont start sitting on it until they finishing laying? So guessing more to come?
Also, I am supposed to be getting a two more finches (juveniles) from a friend this weekend, any concerns adding them now?

Congratulations on "your" first egg, lol. I'm ever so glad that it was Lolly, not you that laid it
Regarding introducing two juvies into the mix at this time....
Refresh my old brain as to what species Lolly and her mate happen to be (?)
Also, the size of your cage (?)

They are all societies, and cage is your typical flight cage 32w x 19d x 37H
So I would have my two, the new Juvies and a couple eggs possibly? LOL

Congrats! Where there are societies there are eggs, where there are eggs there will soon be babies.

If you were looking forward to the experience of little ones, enjoy!
They are fantastic parents!

We are up to four eggs!!!!! Gah! Hoping that is all, having just added the two new little societies, bringing my total to 4 finches (all society) - 4 babies if they all hatch and survive - would pretty much be the limit in my cage!

Congrats, they should be sitting soon. I had some societies that started sitting after the 4th egg and some didn't start sitting after the 6th egg. Most of my societies laid 6 eggs and a lot of the time the last egg wasn't fertile so she might lay a couple more eggs for you.

We are up to 5 eggs (as of Tuesday, i could not see yesterday as they have mostly been sitting for the past couple days now and hard to get a peek!)

Unfortunately I was kinda "stuck" to take the new ones as I had committed to them long before realizing mine would begin to lay - and a separate cage was not an option financially or spatially - thankfully they all are settled in together okay (worst case I probably could have returned them back to my friend to keep until eggs had hatched but...)

So...its been 10 days since the last egg was laid on Mar 23! Fitz and Lolly have been diligently sitting on the eggs and turning them, etc since about egg 3 or 4 (laid between mar 18-20) and I am so excited to see what/how many hatch! I've been too afraid to try to remove the eggs to candle them so by my inexperienced glances, they all see to be ok?
This morning I caught Fitz feeding Lolly a bite of breakfast before changing shifts so she could get some fresh breakfast of her own! So cute!!!
Expecting I should probably see hatching in about 4-7 days? Does that sound right?
