We moved the 5 Cordon Bleu fledglings into the large flight cage that has the 3 juvs from the previous clutch. Here are a few new pics. I was able to catch 7 on a perch at one time. Plus one of the younger male at 33 days old, and two pics of the 11 week old males that show there adult color is coming on more.

The 8 of them love being together and one of the older males sang and "talked" with me for over 15 minutes this afternoon. I think he would have gone on for an hour or more if I stayed there "talking" with him.

If you meant "sex" them, I think we already know that of these eight, 4 are males, and 4 females. It will be very obvious in 3-4 more months.

I don't know how I would be able to pick a favorite. Do you know if the winter months are their typical breeding time? Or does it work this way for you because your birds are indoors? My male is such a brilliant color right now. I see him picking up, dragging around and playing with long blades of grass - poor guy, no lady to impress.
At this age, are you still offering your 'kids' extra egg food or anything else while they are maturing?

Yes. that what I meant. I have not been able to find any females to my males...... so will be interested in your hens when available

I am not sure about typical breeding times. We have had our pair for one year.

We have tried egg food with them after they were weaned and they didn't eat a lot of it. The foster parents did eat egg food and along with sprouted seed I made sure I changed the egg food three times a day so it would be fresh. The weaned birds prefer hard seed mix, spray millet, sprouted seed, and two dried insect mixes.

a_gouldian - Thanks for the info. Can you tell me which dried insect mixes you buy for them? And how did you get them to eat the dried insects initially? None of my birds will eat anything but live mini mealworms and fruit flies (and whatever else they can catch in the aviary). I've tried pulverizing dried blood worms sprinkled over and mixed in with the egg food and at least my canary, the gouldians and the blue cap will eat some of that. But as soon as one blood worm is left whole, they will leave it behind. Very finicky!

Abba 99 Protein Insect Blend
Quiko Goldy

These are the two we tried a few months ago. I am not sure which one they like the best. We put little piles of this in a plastic Frisbee shaped saucer on the bottom of the cage. The Quiko Goldy has a pungent smell to it and is more coarse than the Abba.
