This is so sad. I somehow managed to keep her alive, hand feeding her from hatch day. But a very tragic situation happened. My poor 2 year old Kiki died last Sunday. Her water didnt run properly from dispenser. I never noticed until it was too late.
I have a new Java pair now. I now have 2 sources of water in cage. Please everyone. Have 2 water sources in your cages. Im traumatised still, my Kiki would been alive if I had 2 water sources. Im so heartbroken and mad at myself.

I'm so sorry to hear about Kiki bird.

Loosing one of our birds, is always heartbreaking, most especially when it's one of our special handraised babies, and even more so when we see it as our fault, sigh....

We have all had these accidents happen, after all we're only human.
It was not as if you set out to harm her right?

What you say though makes lots of sense in regards to having two sources of water for your birds. I would also add, that checking the water and food supply daily is very important.

Once again, sending heartfelt condolences in your direction... :YMHUG:

Thanks so much I appreciate.
Yes checking water is good too. Im doing that a lot now. Is so scary. But I got a new waterer and water there flows easy. Worth investing on a more expensive waterer.
Thanks again so much

Sorry to hear that Sandra =(( I've rushed out the door leaving my societies water on top of the cage instead of inside of it.

9 hours later I returned and noticed right away. If I was gone just a few hours more I would have lost them.

Yes, we have all made mistakes indeed.

I have seen the situation where the water tube has inexplicably gone down to EMPTY. No water in the poop tray or on the floor, so I have no idea how it was emptied :?
The water is filled to at least 2x what they normally drink.

So I now check the water level in the morning and sometime mid-day.
Feeding and water change is in the late afternoon.

It isnt your fault. We all make mistakes. I have two rabbits that got sick and died, and The first one, I still blame myself for not realizing he wasnt drinking. The second one, well she was old, but she got sick, and after the little buck, I feel like I should have noticed. Only advice I can give is really just dont be afraid to try again. It is always hard when you lose a pet, especially when it was a special one, like little handraised Kiki. Do you want me to pray for you?

Very sorry to hear about Kiki. Another thing to watch is if you cover your birds at night. If the cover goes down over the water tube, it can draw a lot of water out of it, which ends up on the cover. It happened several times with mine, so I make sure the night cover does not go over the water tubes.
