I have four Orange Cheek babies that fledged on the 31st of May and yesterday, the 1st. These are parent raised and the second set of babies for the parents. They are doing such an awesome job... I will be taking these babies to the bird mart in October along with the siblings if anyone is interested in them. Sally came yesterday and banded them. I would be lost without her help. She is amazing with these birds! Thank you again Sally!

Stuart--I feed them good quality seed, millet, greens, freeze dried mealworms-chopped up, and live mealworms.. and egg food and freeze dried blood worms.

Pretty much the same as what I use and can see that you use a good effective diet, I tend to use quite a bit of soak seed during the rearing, weaning and first moult,

I've found that the freeze dried blood worms are one of the Key ingredients to success

I have not been able to get my fire finches to breed.
The freeze dried blood worms did not do the trick for me.
And I REALLY do NOT want to give them live worms. ugh.

The freeze dried blood worms I've found only works well for certain birds as not all of me birds accepted them but did help with others.

To be honest Gary here in England I can get an abundance of maggots from virtually every fishing shop in the country aswell as the main maggot farm suppliers and have done rather well with these and now swear by em

It is possible to put a small amount in freezer bags and freeze the maggots,
There is a recipe by the known Belgium fancier Paul de Neil and mainly consists of egg food, soak seed, frozen maggots and with a few added mineral and vitamin supplements etc
