Hello Friendly Finchers,
It would appear that two of my Orange Cheeks have decided to go to nest.
Out of the four, I never could figure out if they were males orfemales... luckily they seem to have figured it out, lol.
Now bring on the mealworms Elana, and wait patiently to see what they do.

Good luck with them.
My Lavenders kept laying eggs and brooding this year but no chicks have fledged - wonder if the male is getting old.
I haven't set up other waxbills to breed this year and have no idea about the sex of my two orange-cheeks either!

Well the kiddos have gotten used to the new house, now once again you are gonna be up to your ears in babies! Enjoy!

That's too bad about your Lavenders.
I saw one of mine bouncing around with a piece of grass in it's beak, not sure what he or she were doing, but hope for the best.
With the Orange Cheeks, I didn't even know they were interested in the nest, lol. I noticed one was missing, so for a minute I thought 'oh no...' and looked at the floor of the flight, thinking I'd lost one.
Then I saw a little beak sticking out of the enterance to the nest, and sure enough there 'she' was.

It does look like we're on the baby train again

doesn't it?
Eggs here and there, babies here and there, and then there is Bubba! Still sitting in the nest like Royalty demanding to be fed

Yes I think they love to scare us like that Elana

I've had that sinking feeling a few times now, only to find my presumed dead feathered friends hiding somewhere in the cage, laughing at my anguish
Little rascals, they are.

Yes, I think they enjoy giving us these mini heart attacks by pulling little disappearance acts

, bad, bad tiny birds
So far one of these little rascals is always in the nest, so keep your fingers crossed for me. I have never had them breed for me before, so I had thought that I had four males or four females . Hopefully it's not just one of my girls sitting on empty eggs, getting my hopes up for nothing.

That's exciting! My OC's seem to have no problem having babies and feeding them. They had 2 sets this year. So I'm rooting for your guys and gals!

Well, we shall see how these tiny first time parents do. So far so good, sitting very tight.
Did you go theough a million mealworms? 'cause that's what it seems like over here.

That is great news. Congrats!
that means you're doing the right things in the aviary.
Those little buggers, ime, are kind of hard to breed.
i had them for about 2yrs and was only able to get them to nest, never hatched any chicks. maybe they were two females or maybe they were wild caught!!!
now pump them up with proteins and hopefully will hatch some little chicks

Thanks Andi,
So far sitting in the nest and everyone is chowing down on loads of mealworms.
If they've hatched anything they're not telling me so far, lol.
We shall have to wait and see in time

I really hope to get some of these little guys to breed.
