My First Java Babies hatched!

They hatched yesterday morning, and I watched the nest now and then to make sure they were being fed and didn't end up in my brooder (which as usual is on standby).
I got this shot this morning when Charm (mom) was getting her breakfast so they haven't been fed yet.
Out of 7 eggs, 3 were fertile. One of the fertile didnt hatch From the looks of it, it wont hatch.
But very happy to have these two out of their first ever clutch!

.I dont have their double flight set up yet, so I'm grateful the hatch rate is small. The other pair (Tails & Lady) are also sitting on 7 eggs that are a week old. We shall see.
Oh boy these chicks are BIG for being a day old compared to gouldians!

Pinkies!!!
How wonderful for you Babs.
Let's hope parents will feed and raise them well. From what I've read, Javas are supposed to be very good parents.
Congratulations hon

You know I am in heaven right now. Was a long wait for this moment.

Both hens sit well, with the menfolk outside arguing about politics.

Told ya!!!
Easy peazy with them!
I bet you any bird that hatches with fledge hahahha.
Javas are one of the most wonderful bird parents I've ever breed.
Is the parents eating any eggfood? It took me sooo long to get my rescued javas to even eat veggies.
I'm happy for you Babs

I found my Javas to be perfect parents.
I've mentioned it before, but my old breeding pair was, for whatever reason, infertile, so I'd let them hatch societies and once gave them a neglected zebra runt, who they raised along with a society chick. Not only did they raise these, they also fed the fledgelings of all the other finches. We had a baby society who was far behind her siblings once, and who just took forever to fledge. She took two months to wean, and her parents stopped feeding her around six weeks; she survived because the Javas continued to feed her.

Mom seems to be doing "ok" so far. But one of the hatchlings wasnt fed by this afternoon, so I removed all the eggs so mom's focus is on the chicks and not also being "broody with eggs". If the baby hasnt been fed by tonight I will supplement feed.
Yep my javas will all eat boiled egg. The females scarfed it when they were laying. But now she is focused on white millet and dried egg food.
Dylan, did you ever try a BIG wooden box? Once I put those wooden boxes in, everyone started laying.

Well, it's 8 pm here so the 2 kids are about a day and a half old. The little one still hasnt been fed by mom, so I hovered like a hummingbird until he FINALLY opened his mouth and laid a GOOD FEED into him. Javas apparently dont open -up the beaks to just anyone.
That should keep him until morning. Let see what Charm the momma does in another day when they vocalize.
I'll keep him up until he screams. LOL
On another note....in the other nest with Tails and Lady, ALL the eggs are viable.

Holy cow.

That's pretty uncommon. Maybe he just hatched and still has egg yolk from his egg. You did good feeding him though. What about dad? Isn't he helping yet

My first Java was Tux, he was housed with zebras for two years.

WHAT was she thinking??
Hence my worry. He sits but doesnt feed. The other pair have it all down with swapping. Tux has a noisy and pushy attitude in the others nest.. Keeping a close eye on him.
If I pull the kids (to hand feed) on their two kids, Charm and Tux will have their own dedicated/separated side when the doubleflight arrive tomorrow., so the other pair can breed in peace
You know me, I anticipated this possible event. I get the new flight on weds.
With Javas IMPOSSIBLE to find in Virginia...I have to work around it.

I'm pretty sure Tax will learn to be a great parent. All comes with experience especially with foster birds or birds that have shared their lives with other species. I can tell you that javas do need their own space. My pairs try to get rid of their kids even once they realize their self sufficient. So with the new flight they will be fine
If it's so hard to find javas there can I send this 2 pretty whites. You just pay the shipping and I will be very happy with that

Ohh they are beautiful! Annnd that shows how they get in each other's business. Not violent like zebra, but they are smart, curious and in each others faces. Makes me laugh.
