What to do?
So a pair of my societies had chicks (I don't know which ones).
The first baby was pushed out and died (I didn't know it had hatched) and the second one was already pushed out once (i put it back in). Four of my societies feed the baby but because of how many of the birds choose to sleep in that particular nest, I'm worried the baby will accidentally get pushed out again.
Should I try putting the baby (and the two other eggs) into one of the other less-occupied nests or should I try my hand at putting it in a brooder/incubator and feeding it by hand?

Re: What to do?
If they are feeding it especially four of them they must be interested in it so you should leave the chick otherwise they might not want to go in the other nest and leave it

Make the nest deeper so the baby can't roll out. Societies are usually very good parents.

Re: What to do?
They kicked the chick out of the nest. I found it clear on the other side of the cage, very cold but still alive. I don't have an incubator/brooder so I put the chick in with Bast (the zebra who had the first chicks, she's got eggs again). I have yet to see the chick on the bottom of the cage so it's probably safe to say Bast adopted it.
Now I just have to figure out what to do when the other two society eggs hatch.

Re: What to do?
The Zebra didn't look like she was feeding the chick. Another one of the society eggs hatched so I took the first chick and put it back in it's original nest (now there's just one egg left). The societies seemed to have realized they can't stuff themselves inside the nest all together on top of two newborns so they've only been going in two at a time to feed them. I'm going to keep an eye on them though and build a brooder tomorrow as a just-in-case.

Re: What to do?
The chicks are doing well!

I'm honestly surprised at how big they are. My zeebs were nowhere near this big when they were this age. These guys also seem to be lacking feathers pretty much everywhere except their wings. I've decided to name them Junebug and Ladybug.
These are the suspected parents, Ambly, Mothra and Mantis.
They are very loving and diligent parents.
I think I'm going to make a point of handling and possibly feeding them for a little bit every day so that they get used to human contact.

Re: What to do?
Update on Ladybug and Junebug!

Ladybug (front) has a bum leg (i think dislocated hip or something) which causes the leg to point either out to the side or completely backwards. Still perfectly capable of staying on the rope perches I have in there, though Bug is a bit clumsy. Loves getting chin rubs.
Junebug, like one of the parents, has a bum foot.

Those two turned beautiful.
It does look like a dislocated, or badly splayed leg on Ladybug. As long as she's managing with it, then all is well.
The one concern, is that the leg might get caught in or on something, causing a more serious injury, so that's something to watch out for.
Enjoy your babies

Hi Fraser,
The only time I would consider amputation, is if the leg was completely dead.
Read my old Thread over here, to see the only time I had to amputate...
