How soon can Gouldians be paired up differently?

I have a pair of LG's that just fledged their chicks. I know it will take a mimimum of another 3 weeks (approx) for the chicks to be weaned.
As this is the first clutch for these adults this season I'd like each of them to have another clutch... but not with each other.
After the chicks are fully weaned - can I pair these two adults up with different adults or do I have to leave them together for the entire season?

My opinion would be you can pair them up with different mates as long as they can't hear their former mates. I've heard that Gouldians aren't completely monogamous year after year, but they would be clutch after clutch during that season.

Better not to interrupt their breeding cycle till next year..I'd let them have another clutch together.

At the start of the season I had one pair per aviary, how I wanted them paired. The cock birds were not contempt and were always trying to attract the hens next door taking no notice of what they had(I know what your thinking ladies wait for it),this was before any eggs had been laid.So I thought I will reshuffle to improve the chances off success.Having done that, they did the same again this time back to the ones they started with.I thought you have done your dash now guys, so I left them.eventually after a week or so they settled and I have had a good season. So I also would leave them now ,buy the sounds of it they should be moulting soon if not already started.

I've always found it more convenient to pair them up just before the start of breeding season. as mine breed in the aviary I put the selected pairs into cages for a month to let them get to know each other. doesnt always work though

I think Paul is saying that some Rock Hudsons prefer to be with other Rock Hudsons.

LOL! No problem. I might have been off the mark....it's Paul's humor after all.
I checked our your website too. Never noticed the link before. You have some great prices.

Thank you. I know I'm lower than most (if not all) local breeders here. You should take a trip over!

I read an article recently, that said if you had an extremely well marked cock you were more likely to get cock offspring then hens.So if you had problems with this happening, put the hen with a less coloured cock then previous.I have yet to test this theory.

Interesting theory Gomer. But the two I'm having particular trouble (no interest in ANY females) are my Silver and Pastel Blue male gouldians.
Maybe it works in reverse - put the females with highly coloured males.

But that won't get me the results I'm looking for...

If you cock bird is lazy, and you have a spare cock that will give you the same genetic results.try two cocks and one hen,or are your Gould's in aviaries side by side.Or three pair and a extra cock.

Actually I have TWO pairs of Gouldians where the males are doing nothing with their females! Although they do get along fine. So I could put both males in with 1 female for a few weeks?
I tried it with a younger spare male for a couple of days and... still nothing. I'll try putting both the silver and the pastel blue males in with the green split-to-blue hen for a longer period. I'd be happy with babies from either male with her.
