Photos :Red-eyed Java an opal juvie?
Well my 3 hand fed kids are weaned and eating on my desk while I work. Tame and they are free-flight in my office only during my working hours (its interesting having a bird pulling your hair, another up your nose, and a 3rd yanking your microphone around while talking to people).
This red-eyed kiddo seems lighter than the fawn mutation. And it doesn't have a line indicating it will have a color to the top of the head head at all. Mom and dad are visibly normal. It doesnt look like any fawn juveniles that I have seen pictures of.
We named it Valla (we think its a she) and siblings are Thor and Nord eating next to her. They appear to be normal in color.
And YES! I have a healthy diet of energy drink in the morning. *giggle *

Hi hon,
That is an interesting mutation. I don't think I've ever seen that in any pictures. They are cute babies .
What's with the weird TANK machine thingie under your bird pictures????
We just have to get a better way to post pictures again.

What tank? BUBBA!!!! GET yer toys outta here!!
Sheather
Dylan, what did I do wrong here?
I just posted them on Imgur and cut and pasted the "direct link" on imgur.com
Seems its not so "direct" with its linkage. I cant see the "tank" on my end.
Thank goodness you can still see the kids! "Cujo-
Valla" is quite pretty isn't she?
Thor is the one that goes up my nose! OMG! He's insane! I actually said "what are you doing up my nose" to a client. Client was like "excuse me?" I forgot to hit the mute button.

I am on Firefox so I don't know if the instructions are identical for other browsers, but to post images in the forum you have to right-click them on Imgur, hit "copy image location", and past it here in between image tags. The tags are [ i m g ] your image here [ / i m g ]
But with no spaces (if I put it no spaces here, it disappears, as it's code.)

The kids are still free-flight while I work. I have to wear a hat, as they spend most of their time on my head, or on top of blind gouldian Midget's cage. At times they sit on my hands while I am typing on the keyboard. Its a lot of fun watching them fly around and explore my desk.
We built perches in the corners of the room, but they have yet to explore that far. And oddly they don't eat any oats like all my other javas.
One of the normal-colored (Thor) is already molting and pin feathers are showing up in his head and around his chest.
The unknown mutation with the red eyes, Valla.....of course she will probably molt last , leaving me wondering what exactly she is until then.

Some loverly birds there Babs, very unusual colours, I've never really been attracted to Java's over the years but recently I've shown some quite considerable interest in em,Babs wrote: Well my 3 hand fed kids are weaned and eating on my desk while I work. I highly recommend you get a pair! Hearty big ole finches. And they are so intelligent and curious.
Unlike my gouldians, these guys love to play with parakeet toys, jangling and tugging them.
You should hand feed a few and let them ride on your shoulder & on your head in your new bird room.

Yea I'm definitely interested Babs although I don't think I'd hand rear any of em because firstly I generally prefer self rearing birds and more importantly secondly I really wouldn't have the time aswell as being to impatient as I know only to well that it's certainly not a five minute job, it's clearly very time consuming, demanding and tiring,Babs wrote: Stuart whiting

With all of me birds Babs they've all simply got two choices, they eaither breed and self rear or they don't,
I suppose the only birds I'd perhaps hand rear nowadays are parrots and birds of prey as these are obviously very dear birds not to wanna lose

Yep I completely understand. I have and advantage of working in my home office, so I just open the brooder and pop in a bottle.
If they get too loud, I plug everything into the kitchen and tend them on breaks.
But on the bright side, they are gorgeous.

My hand raised/tamed java kids have almost completely colored up! Im working in the main office the next few weeks and completely missing their antics.
I think they are molting into fine looking adults. I got a pick of them in the cage they sleep in at night.
Valor (fawn) is male. Normal on the left is Nordic (also male and he preens me constantly), and Thora (we thought was a male because she is so assertive is actually our bossy, but lovable female.
Thora and Valor are just finishing up their first molt.
This is Tux's and Charms first clutch.

Re: Photos :Red-eyed Java an opal juvie?
Fawn for sure... opal babies in the nest have red eyes but will show a creamy colored body... below are some of mine
To get opal both normal parents need to be split to both silver and fawn (fawn is recessive in java unlike other species) or you need a silver split fawn pair or a fawn split silver pair or a silver split to fawn and a fawn split to silver pair.... both parents must carry both genes to produce opal.
