Gouldian breeding season finally stable

After a rough start with Easy's kids getting tossed by her mate (they are safe and weaned 2 dilutes and 2 YB and her mate Butternut was rehomed to a nice old couple who dont want to breed)

Easy is living up to her name (the little tart) *giggle* and in no time she found love with my Silver male Stormy. :YMDAYDREAM: They have laid 3 eggs so far. She is such a great hen. I'm looking forward to years of kids from these two.

Jet and Bubbles (my two best parents from last season), have started their first clutch of the season. The 3 little guys are below. Looks like 2 GBs and 1 BB. And as is their style, they are parenting flawlessly. <3

Thanks, my friend! It looks like I'm going to have a lot of Lilac-breasted and purple-breasted kids this year.

They are softer looking males, but still quite colorful.

Thanks kiddo! I'm glad they are all working together well. The females are looking a bit ruffled from sitting so tight. But the males.....oh they are dashing. ;)

I always thought gouldian breeding season was in the spring. Do they regularly breed year round, or do you condition them to breed?

Congrats on the babies :)

In Australia breeding season is the opposite of ours. So many of our gouldians molt in the summer and breed in the winter. Mine are kept indoors under artificial light so I allow them to breed after their adult seasonal molt.

Most of my adults molt in the summer and finish by winter (which is now).

I have a few that molt during the winter and I will probably breed them in the spring. But I think my artifical lighting has a lot to do with them not moving with the sun's clock.

Both males are LB/WB. And Bubbles is split WB as well. Easy, we dont know.

Her weaned offspring so far are all PB. So we will see what this next season produces. As far we know she can make LB and PB with this pairing hopefully not having the invisible WB gene. WB is so tenacious! GRrrr.

Elana, Brat is lonely. Im introducing her mate this weekend. So sad for my girl. She's perched alone for way too long. Merlin has tried to cheer her up with song, but she is not having it.
