PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Hello everyone. I just checked my finches nest to see if she had layed the 6th egg yet and when I looked I only saw 4 eggs. I looked all around the enclosure but couldn't find any broken egg shells. What are the chances that they destroyed the egg and ate everything without leaving anything behind? I couldn't find any egg or yolk. What are also the chances that the egg is hidden down somewhere in the nest where I can't see it right now? the nest has some fairly deep material that they could have hidden it in. Can you guys please tell me what could have happened? I'm desperate. [-o< #-o

FinchLover&Breeder If there is a lot of nesting material in the nest, then the egg could have slipped down in the nest and is simply buried right now. Personally, I would let it go, as if you disturb the nest as much as you would have to do searching for that egg, the parents are likely to abandon the rest of the eggs. This is part of the hobby, not always the best part, but along with the joys of breeding come some disappointments and setbacks.

alright thank you. Is there any chance that it could be under another egg lined up perfectly so I don't see it but that it is still getting warmth so it has a chance to hatch? I would hope that it is still in the nest and not have them destroy another egg like they did with the first one.

ok everyone. I have good news and a question. The good news is that found the the 5th egg. The questions is if it's still getting warmth. The position it is in makes all of the eggs be in an upside down pyramid. The 5th egg is the upside down top and is buried under the other eggs with a 1 cm gap between all of the eggs allowing me to see it. will this give the egg enough warmth to grow and hatch? And is it normal for her to slow down on egg production after the 4th egg? It took over 24 hours for the 5th egg to be layed and the 6th egg has not been layed yet if it is going to be layed. So I hope you guys can help me and answer any and all questions i have.

Thanks in advance.

All the eggs will receive proper incubation, so no worries.

Bird parenrs instinctively know when to move and turn their eggs.

I would not be messing around with these eggs too much if I were you.
Disturbing the nest, will cause the parents to abandon the nest and their eggs. Touching the eggs, leaves residual oils from our skin on the shells, which is not good for them.

Good luck with your clutch :D .

Thank. I noticed they move them because they had a right-side up pyramid up earlier today. Thanks everyone.

I'm not sure why you are looking around for more birds right now Nick, when you hardly have enough room for the birds you already have kiddo (and with eggs in the nest).

If I were you, I would be concentrating on finding and getting a large flight cage ASAP, not on hunting around for more birds (don't you think?) /:)

Yes but he is giving me 2 cages from what he has told me. decent flight cages. Plus he's moving. He can't keep them. If I can't care for them I'll find someone who can. Finches are like drugs, you get addicted easily.

I know hon, but just don't bite off more than you can chew my boy.

Are these birds and cages for free?

Practically. From what I understood he is giving me 2 cages, their supplies, and both of them for only 20 bucks! Really nice deal for cages alone but with supplies and bird? Bonus!

FinchLover&Breeder just be sure that your getting what your paying for because that does seem rather low

That sounds like a good deal, but make sure you take your folks with you when you go shopping, to make sure that it's not one of those deals that's too good to be true, if you know what I mean (?)
