Number 2 hatched a few hours ago. More eggs are obviously pipping around them.

Kids are strong and Stormy is being a great dad...sitting on his kids and no tossing! I have a good feeling about this pair.

Love seeing those newly-hatched babies! The big down side to waxbills is that you usually don't get to see much of the incubation or hatching process. Often, you don't see any babies at all till they fledge--bummer!

Good eye, girlie! I see a Blueback, and the other is either silver or yellowback (they look almost identical in the beginning).

The two orangish ones are normals or Pastel males.

I think the one egg with the residue on it pipped into it's own fluid (thats the remnants of fluid that oozed out). That one may not hatch. If it does I will be shocked.

The pip was two day's ago, so if he pipped in his fluid he would have aspirated immediately. :( Not much you can do when that happens, hun.

We can hope the fluid dried and he found the air hole at best.

Fraza

Me too Fraser. It's never boring watching them grow. With a very small flashlight I have seen their little beaks in the airhole pecking away inside the egg lots of times. :YMDAYDREAM:

I wait until the day before or on hatching day and take my little flashlight and hold it gently to the side of the eggs without taking the eggs out of the nest.

You can try it with your societies. They will go right back to the nest. Just make sure you are fast so the the eggs don't cool down.
