Woot! One more hatched this morning! This one was a surprise! Looks like 5. That last egg.....it still seems like something is alive in there. But I cant mess about too much, parents have a lot of feeding to do.

Lovely babies hon, looks like one might be a White or a Silver (?)
Honey, give that infant a hand, he's struggling in there.

Congratulations Babs! They look so strong and healthy. I can't believe they allow you to do the nest checks without freaking out. I have a large flight 6 feet long 24 by 24 with a gouldian pair and 6 juveniles. Just feeding them or changing the water upsets the whole gang for a moment. The parents have started sitting on eggs and I would love to know what's going on but have learned not to disturb them or suffer the consequences.

Thanks guys! Super happy about the chicks!
Elana, I wish I could, but if its still alive and I try and let it out even a few hours too soon, I could kill it. Part of their blood supply is still attached to the egg close to the time it hatches.
She sat on day 3 or 4 instead of 6 (which is unusual and why I knew at least 2 chicks would be born a day or two later). So if this guy was laid last, he might have another night to go.
Trust me the urge is there but since conditions were right for the other 5 to hatch just fine, I have to let Mother Nature have her say with this one.

Kyle, I do the nests checks the same time each day with new pairs so they are used to the intrusion. And I distract them with egg shells.
My experienced pairs like Jet and Bubbles, Brat & Ricco (who mysteriously passed away), associated the nest checks with goodies and didnt care in the slightest. They wanted their goodies.
This year will be a challenge for Brat, she has a new male. And I will have to tread carefully with her new male. They are still getting to know each other, I think only recently mated. So that will be another thread and another challenge.

Babs Congrats on all six! Aren't you glad you didn't try to help that last little one? Most of the time, it is best to let Mother Nature take care of things. My thinking is that if it is meant to be, it will happen, and if not, there was a reason.

Indeed. I was shocked to see him in there. I was just doing my routine morning "is everyone alive?" inspection.
I rubbed my eyes, counted twice then let out a "Good JOB little guy!! "
I think I scared the whole bird room. LOL My parrot then belted out "Thank YOU!!" and took the credit for it. hahaha

I'm so very very happy to see little Baby in the middle of that group of begging infants.
Poor little one must have been exhausted, what a determined and brave baby bird.

He worked his butt off for sure. I'm sure that right-of-passage is going to make him/her a tough little gouldian.
I like the look on the guy at the bottom. His mouth is HUGE and he looks sooo mad. LOL

Yep it's a silver! Hopefully she is not split/wb (I know Stormy is LB/WB). I'd really love a PB silver hen. Wouldn't that be pretty?
By the calculator, these two can make silver hens no silver males.
