The very day the older chicks started vocalizing I took this picture and had not noticed the bite mark on the "silver" chick. Its clearly on the left cheek.

Shortly after, Stormy tossed. Glad I had taken time-period photos to find out what triggered him. I think it was simply them vocalizing. Now, hopefully I can fix this. All six chicks are safe, weaned and raised by Easy (the hen).

Hopefully Stormy (the dad) who was kept behind the divider and watched his mate raise the chicks all the way through weaning, will understand now that chicks are for FEEDING and not tossing. [-o< They are 2 eggs into their 2nd clutch & her last clutch of the season). Wish us luck.

All chicks survived but not the love story I was hoping for.

Thankfully the bite had no affect on her (she looks to be a hen) and she is amazingly already beginning to molt. She will be a purple or lilac breasted hen from the looks of her so far.

I'll try and get some followup pictures when she is finished molting.

She is a seriously dedicated hen for sure. After this next clutch she's going to enjoy the big adult double flight, plenty of room to fly and rest until this upcoming winter. I'm getting quite attached to her. She's so gentle with her juvies even after they were weaned.

Flight Feathers

Thanks! Sooo glad I didn't have to hand feed this time. I'm actually doing almost zero hand feeding this season. Knock on wood.
