Babs

I can give them some, then. I just have to be careful that it doesn't sit out for too long, as I'm gone for a good chunk of the weekdays.

Okay, mine are so used to eating egg food so I guess they may not take to boiled egg then.

Ahhh. I can see that causes a problem. If they show great interest in boiled egg, then offer it while you are home and then remove it before you leave.

I'd make sure at the very least they always have 2 sources of dried eggfood if you arent home.

If they soil one, they stop eating it. Hope this helps.

The eggfood is in a gravity feeder, so they shouldn't be able to poop in it. It occasionally gets blocked, though, so an extra feeder wouldn't hurt.

Its weight is increasing again; it's about half a gram heavier than yesterday. Still not as fast as four days ago, but probably fine considering that it is mostly feathered now.

Birb also laid an egg today. I removed it.

Birb laid another egg. I removed it, too; I really don't have enough room for more birds.

The baby is about the same weight as yesterday, but that should be fine, considering that I weighed it around an hour earlier today than I did yesterday. It doesn't act as afraid of me lately, and seemed pretty curious about the society finches when I held it in front of the flight cage. I know it's probably too much to hope for, but having a tame bird would be great! It can walk and climb well, so I imagine it should be out in a couple of days. I wonder if the parents are plucking it, though, as it has sparce feathering on the top of its head.

It fledged today! Then it screamed for a bit and returned to the nest box.

Hahaha! First peak of the world freaked him out, eh? Soo cute! Glad to hear he is vocal. All that racket will keep mom and dad feeding. \M/

Can't wait to see a picture of him fully feathered.

The parents seemed just as freaked out, and didn't want to feed it when it came out. They might take a bit learn that they can feed it outside the nest, but I imagine they'll get it eventually.

Photos should be coming soon.

The Java finches keep the nest meticulously clean compared to the societies and gouldians. I haven't seen any evidence that the parents throw out the droppings; perhaps they're eating them?

Now that it fledged, I'm not going to be taking photos every day.
