My Two Java Boys... Are Breeding???

Post by lovezebs » Mon Nov 27, 2017 10:36 am

Hello All Finchly Lovers,

As some of you may recall, a year ago almost to the day, I ended up getting a gift if 5 Java juvies for free.

Two were re-homed
One sadly passed away
Two, whom I assumed to be 'boys' remained, to share a large flight with a crazy Parrot Finch, and more recently 3 pairs of Zebra Finches.

Well, as of the last week, one of these 'boy' Javas has been spending a lot of time in a cadboard nest box.....

What on earth could 'he' be doing in there????

Any thoughts???

More recent pictures to follow.

I really wasn't planing on it, that's why I'd kept what I had thought were 2 'boys'. Javas are renown for being good breeders with large clutches, and there really aren't any folks around here wanting Javas, and so,....

Hi Fraser,

I am leaving them alone to do their thing. They are both skitish, nervous birds, so I don't want to spook them altogether.

No, they are not related.

Hey, don't judge. It's probably very peaceful and relaxing. Maybe they've made a boys only fort.

I'm more curious why you called your parrot finch "crazy".

Rob

A boys fort indeed, eh???

Well, if a dozen chickies come exploding out of that box, they can go camping and build an exclusive Java club in your house, lol.

P.S.
I just realized that I forgot to answer your question about my crazy Parrot Finch.
He's.... how shall I put this???? Well....he's a sex maniac #-o .

He's kinda gone through 3 wives in his career, and one other possible male (which might have been yet another female (?) but not sure about it ).
The first 2, he practically chased half to death, stressing both so much, that they died before their time.
His last bride hanged herself.

After that, I put him in with my Societies and Zebras, so that he wouldn't be alone. He ended up chasing all the females, both Zebras and Socies, and ahemmmm nailing them.

After that, I put him in with my Javas. He tried the same games with them, and ended up without a tail for his troubles.

Hence being dubbed "CRAZY".

Fraza

Hi Fraser,

Javas, are actually very peaceful birds.

That said, if a little CRAZY Parrot Finch keeps jumping on them, they definitely can hold their own.

They didn't really hurt him, they just yanked his tail feathers out, making him look like a green and red baby chicken, lol, to cool his jets a bit.
