Hey guys it's me Nick again. This time I've got a fun post for all to join in with. This is about eggs, eggs hatching, new born babies, and progress pictures of any and all birds. I myself will be posting my own pictures as more of the eggs hatch. So far as of this morning there was 1 live baby (so cute yet so alien looking!) and one DIS case (dead in shell) that I found on the floor of the cage. Hoping I'll have the remaining eggs hatch and 2 of them hatch tomorrow like there was supposed to. According to lay date a 3 egg should have hatched or been tossed today but I guess he/she decided to wait. Please post your egg ad baby pictures. Have fun and feel free to share any stories you have. :)

wow. cool. I didn't get to see the egg pop open but saw the baby when both parents were out of the nest for like 30 seconds to let me peek. What happens to the egg after they come out? I can find any shells from the one that hatched. did mamma eat it? I promise pictures to come sometime soon. by the end of the week I should have pictures up. Feels good to be a grandpa. :)

To answer your question, yes, the parents will either eat or toss the empty eggshells out of the nest.

It looked like she was trying to mate with some of the fledgelings; that's probably fairly normal for birds, but it seemed rather messed-up by human standards.

The parents will usually kick in and feed fairly soon after the babies hatch.

The chicklets can survive on their yolk sac for approximately 1-2 days, but usually the parents will start feeding sooner.

Supply hard boiled eggs and spray millet for the parents to have available at all times.

***And Nick, keep your hands and nose out of the nest my boy. If you disturb them too much or too often, they may very well abandon the nest, eggs, chicks, and all, which would not be a good thing at all  .

Ok. Let me go grind up some millet then cook and grind eggs. I only insert my nose a couple times a day just to check. I never have and never will put my hands in their nest. The reason I asked how long they take to eat the yolk is because today I saw one of the babies with it's head up in the air and beak open asking for food. it was so cute looking at it then so disgusting as papa fed him/her.

Be happy that Papa is feeding, that is very good news. Otherwise you'd be having to do this....
