Society’s fostering java chick

Post by Fraza » Sat Feb 24, 2018 10:01 am

So my java egg is fertile also one died in the egg and for the past three days they started to incubate the fertile egg less and today they was breeding again so I’ve give it to my 5 society’s and 2 of them are excellent parents so I know that won’t be a problem I just hope the other 4 are good aswell

Has anyone ever fostered java Under society’s and how did it go ?

I fostered societies under Javas and it went well.
The two birds are similar looking as chicks and should raise each other's babies.

My Java finch weighed 24.17 grams when it fledged, opposed to my society finches, which are around 14 grams as adults.

Ohright okay I wasn’t hoping for this then because the hole is quite small on the nest box so the parent java couldn’t fit in because they kept sleeping with my society’s but I have a slider roof on it so might have to pull that open when it’s ready to fledge

That should work fine. One of the nest boxes I used for my society finches would have been a bit awkward for the fledgelings to climb up, so I opened the side panel so they could fly out. Fledgelings are slightly slimmer than adults since they haven't built muscle mass from flying, so they may be able to climb through smaller spaces.

Icearstorm okay yeh because my large zebras can’t fit through these holes either there just right for my society’s so hopefully they will just allow the Java’s to fit through however if not I’ll slide it open haha but thanks for the info and I completely forgot they grow muscle fat thanks
