today I tried something a bit different. normally I feed and water my birds then get out the aviary to watch from outside. this time I decided to stay in. once all the feed was in place including live food & fresh greens I moved to the middle of the aviary out of the birds way. to my amazement every bird that was sitting came out of their nest to eat. so I decided this was my time to peek ( been desperate to do this for weeks  )
first nest I looked in was red cheeked cordons, it contained 3 young :D
next was orange breasts, 2 babies in here :D , orange breasts again 3 babies this time :D . painted finch nest - 2 babies :D , red cheeked cordons 4 babies :D .
still had two more nests to go but chickened out, didnt want to push my luck any further.
first thing I did on leaving the aviary was to phone my local bird society and order a heap more leg rings, then I told the better half.
now I'm praying they all fledge

Sounds wonderful Mick. Can you hear all the babies begging yet? Best wishes for continued success with all those babies!

It is winter here now and i didnt expect my finches to start breeding again. i keep my finches inside the garage because it is in the 50's now at night and at least in the garage there is no drafts but it still gets cold. The only thing that keeps them warm is a 60 watt heat lamp but i doubt that keeps the whole flight cage warm because its a huge cage. I hope they si tight on the eggs to keep them warm.
