Unfortunately.....

Post by FinchLover&Breeder » Tue Feb 27, 2018 6:35 pm

Hey guys. It's me Nick again. As a lot of you know, I bought a society finch and zebra finch about a month or so ago. Well I put the zebra I got that I believed to be a female in with my lonely male zebra. The good news is they bonded instantly and have been very friendly towards each other. I purposefully put a nest in with them and gave them materials about 2 weeks ago. They quickly went to work with the materials and soon the bowl was empty. However, last time I checked there was absolutely no eggs. Does this mean that I have 2 males or is she not laying eggs for a specific reason? If you guys can tell me what's going on and what I can do to get eggs then it would be greatly appreciated.

Nick

As I said I think they are two males although will need some nice close up and clear pics to say for sure. Do they both sing?

Although if they're both males maybe they're not singing because there is no female to sing too.

That might be why neither are singing if they are both male. I know my society is male because I have his cage near my original birds (dad, mom, and the two daughters) and he sings to the girls all the time. I'm planning on redoing my bedroom again soon so I might get another large cage and put Oreo in it with either one or both of my female Chestnut flanked whites so he has some company. Then soon when Wendy and I meet up I'll be getting Biscuit and I'll put Biscuit and Pearl in the same cage, move Kiwi back in with Oreo, and let Mom and Dad rest before allowing them to have a chance of more kids.

Sounds like you have it all planned out then. Good that you know the gender of your soceity now.

Yup. Also I changed up my plan and did some of it early. I removed the girls from the parents and put them up top with Pearl and Kiwi and provided nests in case they decided to get their grove on. I still have to meet with Wendy and add Biscuit to my collection and also rip up my old carpet and restore the wood underneath it. Got lots of work to do and not enough energy.
