Don't even know what to name this one.......

Post by FinchLover&Breeder » Mon Mar 26, 2018 12:10 pm

Hey guys it's me Nick again. Today I come to ask you a question about eggs. My newest female I purchased has layed an egg and my mother bird layed another egg. Right now those eggs are in the same nest (kiwi's nest). My question is if she continues to lay eggs should I let her keep them and raise a clutch or should I give them to my parent birds who have done the whole clutch thing multiple times? I want the eggs to have a good chance of hatching and with this being kiwi's first clutch it's got me worried she won't raise them. I really need your guys help.

Ok so it would be a bit better to give the eggs to the parents? I might give her a chick once it hatches for her to raise.

FinchLover&Breeder yeh u could do or just leave the Mum to raise all I just wouldn’t let the Mum raise lods and loads as it takes a lot out of a bird to raise chicks make sure she has a lot of veggies and egg lol  goodluck anyway can’t wait to see the chicks

Thanks. Also can birds have mint? Me and my family are growing some (3 regular spearmint and 1 chocolate mint). We're also trying to grow cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes.

Never heard of giving mint to birds, chocolate is toxic to birds.

Ok. Should I try some spearmint and see how they like it?

Make sure what you're growing for them is not toxic to birds first. Never heard of giving spearmint to birds. Just because they eat it, doesn't mean it isn't toxic. Better to be safe than sorry.

if it were me - i'd just leave them in there. if the eggs are clear it will make no difference. if they are fertile then the chances or more young for the better parent have increased. what I would do is add a couple of more nests for the new stock
what I would do is increase your knowledge on bird pattern and feeding program. just google soaked seed- sprouted seed- silver beet-seeding grasses - this is the area YOU must concentrate on if you want to successfully breed and rear finches.
not so much with zebras or bango's as they are just beginner's birds but in time you will want to venture into the more serious stuff and if you don't master the easy birds it's a heartbreak road ahead when you enter the exotics.
it's a path worth travelling and a very enjoyable hobby so it's worth the trouble to learn what you can and soak it all up. ......never too old to learn. good luck!
