I plan on purchasing two Zebra Finches in the near future. I'm considering getting two females, but I know that females can still lay eggs that are infertile, even if they are discouraged from doing so through the removal of a hutch or the absence of males. In the case that this happens, what should I do? Do I remove and discard the eggs immediately? After a certain time? Do I change the diet at all?

Any and all advise would be appreciated.

I recommend that you let them sit for a little while before removing them so they don't immediately lay more. If they lay and sit for a few weeks it makes them feel like they have a purpose and makes them not want to lay more immediately which could be harmful to them. Hope this helps.

I usually just remove them straight away. As long as there’s no where comfortable to lay they shouldn’t lay too many. I imagine they would get tired of laying on the ground and eventually give up. Up to you if you let them sit or not.

Amazon1610you might already be set on getting females but I’d just like to say two males would be better they make nests , sing and don’t lay eggs so there’s no chance of getting egg bound

Also because they don’t lay they don’t get agresskve with eachother I have two females in a cage and when they lay eggs they get agressive whereas when I’ve had two males they get along better

Males can get aggressive at each other too so I’d recommend getting two that are brothers.

Flight Feathers Yh I agree aswell brothers would be better but if you can’t fond a related pair then just eat two males instead of female
