Do you have a front on of the ob male? And if you are wanting ob offspring, pair the ob male to a split ob female. And the same with bb - if you want bb offspring then just pair the bb hen with a split bb cock. And yet again the same goes for bc because all of these colors are recessive. It depends what colors you are after really.

Oh right. I’m probably going to get rid of a lot of my Zebs and only keep the best parents. And then I’ll try find some societies (still looking at this stage)

Yes that would be awesome! I’ve been asking around about the Bengalese finches. Asked a couple breeders plus people in the bird club but with no success yet. Apparently our pet shop has them in “sometimes” but I’ve been in there heaps and still not spotted any in there. And the problem is that they would sell them unsexed and I wouldn’t know if they’re related or not so that wouldn’t really work. My best bet is going to the bird show and meeting a breeder there who breeds them. I looked up the awards for the bird show last year and someone won for Bengalese so there should be someone with Bengalese there this year too.

Flight Feathers Yh I hope you find some but are u going to breed them or just for foster because u can buy same sex to foster but if u want to breed which I recommended then Yh u will need to find a boy and girl
A tip I use is play a YouTube video of a male singing and you will here the female doing a strong peer pree sound then there’s your girl and then the Male should stand up straght and listen without making a sound

I’d definitely breed societies, but maybe use them as a foster as well. Would they foster canary babies?
Okay that sounds like a good idea- I’ll have to try it. How will I be able to tell if the societies are related or not? Like if I breed them once and the babies are all weak does this mean they are related? And do you have a video of the sounds the female makes? Thanks!

Flight Feathers well I would have videos but I can’t upload them
And to be honest it’s pretty easy to tell if they aren’t related just pic ones that are different colours like a pied brown one and a pied fawn or a white or self
Sibling ones always look similar and have same marks like my ones offspring always carried a white mark where the Mum had a feather and they also carried a mark under the beak like the Mum so look out for the birds having same patterns

Ohh okay that’s interesting, and two parents couldn’t have both a self and a pied?
What’s a self look like?

Oh right that makes sense. So a pied and a self cannot be siblings at all? What if they’re all pied or all self?

Thank you so much! That’s really helpful, it’ll just be finding a pair then. I really want to get a pair too but for now I’ll just have to be patient. I’ll have to keep looking and asking people if they know anyone who breeds societies. I’m sure I’ll find some eventually and I’ll keep asking the pet shop too as they apparently do have them sometimes....
