Jess

We need more information, hun. How old is the chick? What species?

The crops each should be no bigger than the head. And chicks in the first few days only take a drop or two at a time, and can handle more as they grow.

Javas will throw up easily if you overfeed, as their crops are not as elastic as other species and their parents feed a bit at a time, small amounts right through weaning.

And always feed the chick inside the brooder to keep the crop warm. Dont play with the chick. It must keep the crop at body temperature inside the brooder/nest until it fledges.

We have hand feeding threads in the stickies, and you can click on my youtube channel with a documentary on feeding gouldians from hatch to wean. Just cut and paste my signature address by my name below, click play lists and you will find a complete guide under "hand feeding documentary"

It will take you from hatch to weaning.

Oh, I'm sorry for being quite vague. Your videos are very helpful. The specie is a zebra finch. It is about 6 days old. I wasn't planning on hand feeding it, but the parents sadly rejected it. I just wanted to know to what point is the crop really is full.
