Please help! What to do?

Post by Sandra » Mon Jun 25, 2018 8:02 am

OMG, my Orange Cheeks waxbills layed eggs at the bottom of the cage. She really laying on them. Its not eggs that just been pooped out from perch and ignored.

I probably did wrong thing. I took a cup, put in nesting materials and then scooped the 3 eggs with a spoon and put them in that cup at a more elevated spot of the cage.

Im in total shock. Should i put back the eggs where they were?
Please help me.

No don’t leave the eggs were they where just leave them in a nest high up in the cage and see if she will lay the 4th egg into ther and incubate them (hopefully she lays the rest in the nest not on the floor !)

They usually lay 4-6 and then sometimes 8

I just read, the orange cheeks prefer to lay their eggs at bottom of the cage. So i pit them back ... I also read once you touch the eggs the orange cheeks might leave nest.

I left a nest in cage and see if shes goimg to lay 4rth one wih the other eggs or in the nest. I left nest low because they kept at lower level of the cage

They have left the eggs anyways and no sign of a 4rth egg. Ive learned a lesson I guess. But the nest I gave them is still there. Maybe they will try for a 2nd time later.

Thanks so much for replying to my post, so appreciate

She just layed 4th egg but seperated from the other and no incubation. Oh well. The gold breasted waxbills took the nest I put in for the orange cheeks.

Sandra Put in multiple nests at different heights in the cage, perhaps the Orange-cheeks will use one of them. I don't think they will incubate any eggs that are laid on the floor, and most finches won't go to a new nest where you have moved their eggs, they just abandon.
3 Purple Grenadiers, 1 Goldbreast + 1 cat.

I've read not to touch the eggs with your hands because body oils can harm the covering of the egg and harm the embryo.
