Well, exactly on schedule the first chick has hatched out of 7 eggs. Boy I sure hope they are not all fertilized. Both mommy and daddy and falling around all excited but are still constantly in nest. Such great parents.

Thanks. Me too. Gilbert and Sully are perfect parents. The energy was so different when I came home. Gilbert came flying into the kitchen with me. Then he sat on my plate of sushi and had a couple bites. Then kept flying around me. I asked him if babies were hatching, if that’s why he was acting funny. Then when he went in and Sully came out she was also a bit odd. Really getting after food which makes sense. Hopefully I’ll be able to take a picture tomorrow.

Mutations??? Is that a good or a bad mutation? Mutation, meaning colours because of mom and dad’s colour differences? Hopefully when I get home later I’ll have a chance to see them both out of the nest for a fly.

PS...how can I add more photos to this post?

I can’t look at this photo. The baby was on the floor of nest but still alive and warm. It was too tiny to pick up. I had to scoop it up with a spoon and put back in the back of the nest. I don’t know if mommy and daddy are feeding it. They are both constantly in the nest. The baby’s mouth is soooo tiny like a sesame seed wouldn’t even fit in there. I guess these too have got to figure this out on their own. I keep checking for babies on the floor. I need to either tip the nest back so the opening is higher or replace the nest. I think tip back a bit is less disturbing. Thoughts??

GilbertandSully yes tip it back and when u was looking at it did it have little yellow pouches on the side of its neck if so then that’s it’s food storage and it’s being fed

I’ll have to zoom in on the photo. It was shockingly tiny but I actually couldn’t even guess the egg size TIL one rolled out. Size of a dime. I’ll zoom in on my photo later and see if I can see. Fingers crossed.

I was able to secure the nest and tip it back. The door has been pivoted up about 2cms. I’m assuming that mom and dad will adjust all the bedding in there.

Tried to get a phot inside but so much bedding is in front of the door that I can’t see anything. Other than feeding them good stuff there’s not much I can do now.

PS... Not sure why pictures keep uploading sideways. Lol

Haha and that’s good I don’t think it would have lasted this lon anyway if it wasn’t being fed

There’s two little peepers in there now. First one was Monday, now Thursday. Maybe hatched yesterday. Who knows. Just very quick peek in there. Looks like the new position of the nest didn’t cause much issue.

Nope it looks good also if u leave bath water when the parents bath and then sit on the eggs it makes the eggs easier to hatch because there moist

I have a bathing dish on the floor under their cage in their little foraging area for bathing.

Also, I bought the egg mix. I though it was a wet mix, like mix with water but there are no directions for that. This is meant to be dry food?
