When can I clean out the Nest?

Post by GilbertandSully » Sat Aug 04, 2018 9:38 pm

The two babies are fledging and flying around with mom and dad. Such a lovely family. They still do sleep in the nest at night and throughout the day. I’d love to empty out the bedding and get rid of the 5 eggs that didn’t hatch, if they are still in there. It isbokay for me to clean it out now and put back in the cage? They’ll have to rebuild the bedding if they want.

hi, and yes go a head with that , do not put it back if u won't breeding them , for two reasons
1st both parents will fully buzzy on the weaning process
2nd sleeping the nignt perched is healthy way to improve their legs & wings muscles !
my fledglings will not see the nest again till their own breeding season

Agreed. Nests are not needed for sleeping, and they do promote breeding. Unless you want more babies, remove the nest.
