Look who popped out of the nest today.

One down and five more to go. I am really excited about these babies. They are Mario's first! He is an oh/pb/yb and the cock is a bh/pb/gb. They are excellent parents!!

Congratulations Donna. I'm assuming you didn't actually get two cocks to breed! If so, you're really good!
Where do you get your colored split bands? They are HUGE. If you get the ones from NFSS, they are a lot smaller. I have a couple orange ones I can send you to try out.

Congrats! That is one good-looking fledgling!
Are you using those soft plastic bands that are made from beads--the ones that don't need a tool to apply, just a paper clip? If so, be careful with them. They may be OK with Gouldians due to their larger size, but one of my Stars lost part of her foot due to the band slipping down over the toes, cutting off blood circulation. I've since removed them from all the other finches (they didn't work well with the smaller waxbills anyway, kept falling off).
As Atarasi said, the NFSS has XF size plastic bands which are smaller and will work for most of the finches--though my Goldbreasts can shuck any band I put on them!

I got them at the last bird mart. They really aren't as big as they look in the pictures. Oops...... I meant to say the hen.....
Sally, No I do not use those beads they sell at hobby stores. These came from the bird mart. I haven't had any problems with them and have used them for about a year. I really do think they just look large in the picture. They aren't big and I haven't had any to come off yet. I will take them to the bird show this weekend and ask Floyd about them. IF they are not the right ones I will get some more. Thanks

Congratulations! I am finding it hard to keep Gouldians alive let alone breed them. Well done!

Looks yellow.... for now.
This morning before I left it had its little head out the door of the nest box looking up at Spice (who is not the dad, but is feeding them) sitting on top of the nest box. It was begging, he leaned over and fed it from the top. It was too funny. I knew then that it would be out when I got home.

Three left to go.
