Infertile eggs
I'm feeling a bit down today. My canaries are in breeding mode. None of the eggs are fertile. Wondering if that is a common occurrence when laying the first batch of eggs. I pray that next batch of eggs will have at least a few fertile ones.

Re: Infertile eggs
I thought it was too early to be breeding. Are you sure both the male and female are ready? Perhaps the male is shooting blanks. Have you seen them mate? The female could just be laying eggs (be carefuly how many times you let her lay).

Re: Infertile eggs
Rob is right, it is too early in the season (assuming you are in the Northern Hemisphere---are you?) The male probably isn't ready. The day length should be at the shortest of the year now, something like 9 or 10 hours of light per day.
In my experience, males aren't ready until the day length is longer than 13 hours---March or later.
And yes, it is common for young hens to have infertile eggs the first round.
