I have a pair of young Gouldians and the female is sitting in the nest box all the time. There are no eggs. One time the male popped into the box with the female for a few moments. Are theses young bird getting ready to breed or no?
Can anyone tell me the use of Petamine for breeding? Should I feed this to non breeding birds in an attempt provide them with the best breeding conditions or should I wait until there are eggs to do this? What about the use of live foods around the time of breeding?
Thanks!
Dan

I have about 20 gouldian babies in my aviary. I have never given them this Petamine. I am not sure what that is. I think if they are ready to breed, they will not need this. Is the hen's beak black? Is so, then she is in breeding mode and they usually mate in the nest box.
My gouldians will not eat live food and I think most don't. Sometimes they wll, but it is not necessary for the growth of the babies. They will feed without them. I would not give them to goulds. I do put them in my mixed aviary when my courdons are breeding, but the goulds never touch them. Good luck and keep us posted.
You may see eggs in a few days now.....
